AHL Coalition Accomplishments Report 2023-2025

Established in 2023, the Advancing Healthy Lifestyles Coalition has united partners across sectors to expand access to healthy lifestyle resources and foster lasting community impact. This report highlights key milestones, achievements, and strategic actions that have advanced the Coalition’s mission and goals—reflecting meaningful progress in promoting health and equity statewide.

A Comparative Analysis of State-Level Physical Activity, Nutrition, and Obesity Prevention Programs

This comparative analysis of state-level Physical Activity, Nutrition, and Obesity Prevention (PANO) Programs was a student led research project by the author, Esther Dawley, under the supervision of the Advancing Healthy Lifestyles Coalition Policy Committee. This effort, which was conducted over several weeks and completed in May 2025, examines five comparison states (Iowa, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware) and identifies common themes and key take-aways.

Advancing Healthy Lifestyles (AHL) is part of the Division of Public Health’s Physical Activity, Nutrition, and Obesity Prevention (PANO) Program. AHL’s goal is to reduce adult and childhood obesity, along with other chronic conditions, to achieve long-term health equity for schools, communities, and workplaces throughout Delaware.

Moving Forward: Physical Activity, Nutrition, and Obesity Prevention in Delaware 2025-2028

The Division of Public Health’s Physical Activity, Nutrition, and Obesity Prevention Program (PANO), positioned within the Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Section, promotes healthier lifestyles in Delaware by focusing on the critical roles of physical activity and nutrition in preventing obesity. This plan, a result of collaborative efforts with PANO’s committed partners, outlines a strategic path forward to support healthier communities and guide future obesity prevention efforts across the state.

Delaware State Health Improvement Plan

The State Health Assessment (SHA), State Health Improvement Plan (SHIP), and the Division of Public Health’s strategic plan are required for states seeking accreditation from the Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB). The SHIP outlines how the health department and community will address issues identified in the SHA. It helps set priorities, guide resources, and shape programs and policies to improve population health.

This report summarizes how chronic diseases impact population health in Delaware and how these disease patterns compare to national data.
